This study focuses on the Miao ethnic group’s embroidery culture in China, analysing elements such as embroidery patterns, tactile experiences, and colour characteristics to assist visually impaired and colour-blind individuals in addressing challenges related to clothing coordination and consumption behaviour within the contemporary fashion industry.

Combining literature review with design-based research methods, this study systematically analyses the traditional colour characteristics and cultural connotations of Miao embroidery. I have designed a series of inclusive colour schemes. Miao embroidery features strong colour contrasts, so I utilise complementary and contrasting colours to create a powerful visual impact. These strong colour contrasts enable colour-blind individuals to more easily discern the colours of patterns when purchasing clothing. By selecting the correct colours, I evaluated the perception and interactive experience of visually impaired individuals towards traditional colours through design practice and user feedback, and transformed these insights into innovative solutions adapted for modern fashion design.
